Reporting from Las Vegas, after attending numerous CES events, we believed we had seen it all, only to discover there was more to experience. Enter Asus’ Adol 14 Air, a laptop equipped with an integrated aroma diffuser, designed to keep your workspace smelling delightful with your preferred fragrance. In the video above and in our detailed review below, we delve into this unique feature to showcase its functionality.
It is essential to note that this laptop is currently exclusively available in China. Displayed at CES 2025 by Asus to gauge interest, there is potential for expansion into other regions in the future.
Externally, the laptop resembles a typical ultralight model, based on the existing Asus VivoBook chassis recognizable to keen laptop enthusiasts. Noteworthy is the quarter-dollar-sized disk located at the center of the lid, resembling a speaker, slightly raised from the surface. This disk serves as the aromatherapy diffuser, securely in place, even with the lid open, emitting the chosen fragrance.
To remove the scent module, simply place your fingers on the disk’s top and twist to unlock the metal module, allowing it to pop out from its recess. It may take a few attempts to master the twisting action. The perforated top of the disk can be opened to access the scent source—a smaller white disk made of a hard, tile-like material embedded with scent.
Asus offers a variety of fragrance disks as accessories for the Adol, each with its unique scent. These disks, resembling tea bags, can also be customized by adding essential oils or perfumes. The diffuser, a non-electrical component, relies on the heat generated by the screen and internal components for fragrance dispersion, contributing to the subtle nature of the scent.
The Adol is available in striking colors such as rose gold/copper, lavender, opal sheen beige (“Sweet Heart”), and sage green. Featuring a 14-inch display with an impressive 2,880-by-1,800-pixel OLED resolution, and up to an AMD Ryzen 9 8945HS processor and 32GB of memory, this laptop is a blend of style and performance. Additionally, an optional Anna Sui-designed travel case, color-coordinated with the laptop, is available as an accessory.
Please note that this model is not currently offered in the US market.
Even if you’re not immediately drawn to the concept of a diffuser, the lid design and the array of system colors stand out on their own. Quirky? You bet. But imagine having a delightful scent emanating from your computer companion, keeping your workspace fresh and invigorating even when your creativity seems to be at a standstill.
Currently, Adol is exclusively available in China. Unfortunately, we do not have any specific dates or pricing information to provide for North America or other markets. The possibility of future releases in different regions remains uncertain, but we are hopeful that this unique product will continue to make waves. Our exploration of this atypical PC has been an intriguing experience that we thoroughly enjoyed.
The combination of aesthetics and functionality is what truly sets Adol apart. While the diffuser feature may not be for everyone, the attention to detail in the lid design and the vibrant system colors make a bold statement. It’s a refreshing departure from the mundane, offering a blend of style and practicality that is sure to catch the eye.
In terms of availability, the current focus on the Chinese market leaves much to the imagination for potential customers elsewhere. The lack of concrete information regarding a North American release or pricing leaves us with more questions than answers. However, the mere possibility of Adol making its way to other regions is enough to spark curiosity and anticipation.
The allure of Adol lies in its unique approach to blending technology with sensory experiences. The idea of a computer companion that not only enhances your workspace but also fills it with pleasant scents is undeniably appealing. It adds a touch of whimsy to the everyday, transforming a mundane task into a sensorial delight.
As we delve deeper into the nuances of Adol, the limitations of its current availability become more apparent. The exclusivity to the Chinese market creates a sense of longing for those outside the region, wondering if they will ever have the chance to experience this innovative product. The uncertainty surrounding future launches only adds to the mystique, leaving us eager to see where Adol will venture next.
Despite the challenges of accessibility, the potential of Adol to captivate a global audience is undeniable. Its blend of functionality, aesthetics, and sensory elements creates a compelling proposition for consumers looking for something beyond the ordinary. The distinctiveness of Adol is what makes it so intriguing – a product that defies convention and invites users to explore a new realm of possibilities.
In conclusion, Adol may be a niche product for now, but its impact resonates far beyond its current confines. The allure of a computer companion that doubles as a diffuser is a concept that has the potential to revolutionize the way we interact with technology. While its availability may be limited at present, the interest and excitement it has generated suggest that this may just be the beginning of Adol’s journey into the world of innovative computing.
