Tragic Ending: University Student from Pittsburgh Reported Missing in Dominican Republic Believed to Have Drowned
The recent disappearance of a University of Pittsburgh student in the Dominican Republic has sadly come to a devastating conclusion. According to officials who spoke to ABC News on Sunday, the missing student, identified as Sudiksha Konanki, a legal permanent resident of the United States and an Indian citizen, is believed to have died by drowning.
Konanki was one of six female students who had been traveling in Punta Cana, as confirmed by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office. Notably, she and another student were residents of Loudoun County, Virginia.
Reports from Dominican officials involved in the investigation indicate that Konanki was walking on the beach with six individuals on March 5 before the tragic incident took place. A police report from the Dominican Republic revealed that, after most of the group had returned to the hotel, Konanki remained on the beach with one other person. During a swim, they were both caught by a large wave.
Security camera footage captured Konanki for the last time on the beach around 4:50 a.m. on March 6, as mentioned in the police report.
