Unexplained seismic activity shakes Bay Area residents

HAYWARD, Calif. — A series of small earthquakes jolted the San Francisco Bay Area late on Thursday morning, presenting an additional challenge amid an already eventful day grappling with nature’s forces in the region. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that the initial quake, measuring 3.4 in magnitude, struck just before noon. The epicenter was located approximately 4 miles beneath the surface, near Hayward in the East Bay. Within a span of less than two minutes, a subsequent quake, registering at 3.2 magnitude, followed suit.

Approximately an hour later, a more powerful magnitude 3.7 earthquake was recorded in close proximity to the suburb of San Francisco, occurring at a depth of about 4 miles, as per the USGS. As of now, there have been no immediate reports of damages or injuries, but over 1,200 individuals have reported feeling the tremors to the USGS.

The seismic activity coincides with San Francisco facing challenges above ground as well. The region is currently contending with a formidable atmospheric river storm that has prompted flood alerts within the city. Additionally, High Wind Warnings have been issued, cautioning residents about gusts reaching up to 60 mph.
