Unexpected Twist Hoda Kotb Missing as Craig Melvin Takes Over ‘Today’ Show Hosting Gig!

Craig Melvin has taken over as the co-anchor of the ‘Today’ show alongside Savannah Guthrie, replacing Hoda Kotb. In expressing his gratitude, Melvin spoke warmly of his wife, acknowledging her unwavering support throughout his demanding schedule. “I’m just so thankful for her,” Melvin said. “It’s a lot of long days and short nights, and she’s been there for me from the beginning.”

During the announcement episode on November 14, Kotb commended her successor, expressing confidence in his abilities. “Craig, you are made for this job,” Kotb remarked. “You are that kind of good. You have all the things that this job needs. You’re the right person for it.”

Longtime “Today” show weatherman Al Roker also joined in to congratulate Melvin on his new role through a video appearance. Roker shared his observations of Melvin’s growth both professionally and personally. “I knew this day would come. I’ve watched you grow. I’ve seen you as a journalist, but more importantly, I’ve seen you as a dad,” Roker remarked. “You are so worthy of this. I almost don’t have the words.”

In a show of support and camaraderie, Craig Melvin, Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, and Al Roker attended the Rockefeller Center tree lighting ceremony in New York on December 4, 2024.

Before her departure, both Melvin and Guthrie took a moment to honor Hoda Kotb. A video tribute highlighted Kotb’s contributions to the ‘Today’ show, showcasing her memorable interviews, engaging segments, and heartwarming surprises for viewers. Reflecting on their time together, Guthrie fondly recalled the emotional moments she shared with Kotb off-camera. “If I don’t do this interview does that mean she won’t leave?” Guthrie humorously remarked, alluding to the need for makeup touch-ups after their heartfelt conversations.

Describing Kotb as a unique and cherished colleague, Guthrie expressed her admiration, stating, “She’s so special, it’s almost beyond description.” The tribute concluded with another poignant moment between Guthrie and Kotb, underscoring the deep connection between the two hosts. Melvin also chimed in, praising Kotb’s conversational approach to interviews. “Hoda doesn’t do interviews, she has conversations,” Melvin remarked.

As Craig Melvin steps into his new role on the ‘Today’ show, the transition marks a significant moment for the morning program. With the support and well-wishes of his co-hosts and colleagues, Melvin embarks on this new chapter with enthusiasm and dedication. The legacy of Hoda Kotb’s impactful presence on the show remains ingrained in the memories and sentiments of those she worked alongside.
