Larry David has announced a major collaboration for his upcoming HBO show: He will be teaming up with former President Barack Obama. The 78-year-old “Curb Your Enthusiasm” creator is set to star in a new HBO “American history sketch comedy” series, which is being produced by Barack and Michelle Obama through their company Higher Ground. The six-episode limited series, scheduled to coincide with the United States’ 250th anniversary in 2026, will also be written and produced by David.
Barack Obama humorously commented, “Nothing has prepared me for working with Larry David.” Meanwhile, David jokingly stated, “It is with a heavy heart that I return to television.” The show aims to honor America’s milestone anniversary, although the official logline humorously notes, “…But then Larry David called.”
HBO’s head of comedy programming, Amy Gravitt, anticipates the series offering a glimpse into shared history during the Semiquincentennial celebration. Executive producer Jeff Schaffer highlights that the characters portrayed by David will bring a fresh perspective to overlooked aspects of history.
This project marks David’s first new television endeavor since the conclusion of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” in 2024. The upcoming show will feature familiar faces from “Curb Your Enthusiasm” alongside guest stars, promising an entertaining mix of talent. While details such as the title and release date remain undisclosed, the collaboration between Larry David and the Obamas is highly anticipated in the entertainment industry.
