Underrated Ike, Amazing FDR, and the Real Estate Twist of Polk!

WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump has a unique way of showing his admiration for past presidents based on how well their portraits blend into his White House decor. In a recent Cabinet meeting, Trump shared his preference for frames over pictures, expressing joy in redecorating the Cabinet Room and carefully selecting which portraits to display. He took pride in personally choosing artwork from the White House vaults and even played a role in selecting the room’s drapes. Trump also sought opinions on painting the room in gold leaf, a decision supported by Cabinet members.

Trump mentioned his hands-on involvement in redecorating, highlighting the effort he put into the project with minimal expenses. He recalled requesting a grandfather clock from the State Department be relocated to the White House, despite not having a public visit record during Marco Rubio’s tenure. He shared his thoughts on various past presidents depicted in the portraits, praising some and offering critiques, such as Bill Clinton’s Lincoln bedroom stays for donors.

Discussing specific presidents, Trump applauded Andrew Jackson, praised William McKinley, and noted James K. Polk’s contribution to California’s statehood. He pointed out the aesthetically pleasing frames of certain portraits, like Polk’s similar size to Jackson’s frame. Trump commended Dwight D. Eisenhower for building the Interstate System and his strong stance on immigration, acknowledging the impact on farmers in California. He acknowledged Franklin D. Roosevelt’s presidency, highlighting his wheelchair-bound status and credited him for the ramps outside.

Trump concluded by mentioning Abraham Lincoln and his integrity as “Honest” Abe Lincoln, leaving the statement unfinished.

Abraham Lincoln’s bedroom was a significant place where wars were thought to be ended, not declared. Lincoln’s favorite picture of himself hung in this room for many years, making the Lincoln Bedroom famous. John Adams and his wife Abigail were the first occupants of the White House, followed by William McKinley, who Trump believed was a great president deserving of more credit. Trump mentioned correcting the renaming of Mount McKinley back to honor the legacy of President McKinley, who advocated for tariffs on other countries to protect American jobs and resources.
