Unacast Data Breach Alert Norway on High Alert!

(Reuters) – Location tracking company Unacast has informed the Norwegian government that it fell victim to a hack, as confirmed by a notice released by Norwegian public broadcaster NRK on Friday. Reports emerged last week alleging that Unacast’s data broker subsidiary, Gravy Analytics, had been targeted in a digital breach. Experts consulted by Reuters indicated that the leaked data circulated online by the hackers appeared authentic, yet Unacast has failed to respond to multiple requests for comment thus far.

The communication shared by NRK was directed to Norway’s data protection authority, revealing that the breach involved the unauthorized access of information from a web server belonging to Gravy Analytics through a “misappropriated” key. Legal representatives from Unacast, BakerHostetler, disclosed that the breach was identified on January 4, although further investigation into the timing of the incident is ongoing.

The law firm also disclosed that an initial probe suggested that certain pilfered files “may contain personal data.” Attempts to reach Norway’s data protection authority after regular business hours on Friday went unanswered, while BakerHostetler did not respond promptly to inquiries. Unacast has likewise remained silent in the face of repeated requests for comment.
