Eric Olen, formerly of UC San Diego, has been appointed as the new basketball coach for New Mexico. He will be taking over from Richard Pitino, who recently departed to coach at Xavier. New Mexico’s athletic director, Fernando Lovo, expressed confidence in Olen’s abilities, citing his successful track record and commitment to prioritizing student-athletes. Olen, who spent 21 years at UC San Diego, including 12 as head coach, led the team’s transition from Division II to Division I. Under his leadership, UC San Diego qualified for the NCAA Tournament this season. With 240 wins to his name, Olen will now lead the Lobos program, which has seen NCAA Tournament success in recent years.
