Trump’s Sarcastic Promise to End Russia-Ukraine War!

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — President Donald Trump clarified on Friday that his previous claims of resolving the Russia-Ukraine war within 24 hours were made in jest during his campaign as a candidate. Trump, now in his second term, acknowledged in an interview for the “Full Measure” television program that he was being sarcastic when he repeatedly made those statements. Despite this, he expressed his genuine desire to find a solution. Trump’s administration is actively working to broker a resolution to the conflict.

During the interview, Trump admitted, “Well, I was being a little bit sarcastic when I said that. What I really mean is I’d like to get it settled and, I think, I think I’ll be successful.” This rare acknowledgment came from a president known for his bold claims and exaggerations.

Trump had previously stated during a CNN town hall in May 2023 that he would stop the deaths in the Russia-Ukraine conflict within 24 hours. He continued to reiterate this promise on the campaign trail, asserting that he would work towards peace even before taking office.

With his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, engaging in discussions in Moscow for a U.S.-proposed ceasefire that Ukraine has accepted, Trump remains hopeful for a resolution. When asked about the potential consequences if Putin does not agree to a ceasefire, Trump expressed concern for the lives lost but remained optimistic about Putin’s cooperation.

“I think, I think he’s going to agree. I really do. I think I know him pretty well and I think he’s going to agree,” Trump stated during the interview.
