President Trump’s appointed “border czar,” Tom Homan, is set to speak out against Albany Democrats’ pro-illegal immigration policies at the state Capitol on Wednesday, as reported by The Post. Homan, a native of New York’s North Country, will join Republican legislators in their efforts to repeal the state’s Green Light Law, currently facing a legal challenge from the Trump administration. Additionally, he will support Senate and Assembly Republicans in pushing back against New York’s sanctuary city policies, including the Laken Riley Act, which mandates law enforcement to notify ICE upon arresting a non-citizen. Homan is expected to stand with Albany Republicans in the New York Capitol on Wednesday.
Governor Kathy Hochul is reportedly not scheduled to meet with Homan during his visit to Albany, as she is set to be in New York City on Wednesday morning according to her public schedule. Republicans have expressed support for the Trump administration’s lawsuit against the Green Light Law, which enables undocumented migrants to obtain driver’s licenses while restricting the sharing of that information with ICE. Last month, US Attorney General Pam Bondi filed a lawsuit against Hochul and the state, arguing that New York is obligated to provide its data under the Constitution.
Hochul’s response to Bondi’s lawsuit led to the cancellation of a lunch meeting with Trump. In 2017, former Governor Andrew Cuomo issued an executive order prohibiting state authorities from cooperating with ICE. Homan, raised in Jefferson County near the Canadian border by Lake Ontario, has deep roots in the region.
