Former US President Donald Trump reacted to the Colorado Supreme Court's decision to bar him from running in the 2024 US presidential election.
Posting on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump said, "What a shame for our country!!!. It is a sad day for America!!!"
In the US, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that former President Trump cannot legally participate in the presidential race in this state on the grounds that he committed the crime of "insurrection and rebellion" in the January 6 Congressional raid, and the US Supreme Court is expected to make the final decision.
Trump's lawyers have not yet appealed the Colorado Supreme Court's ruling to the Supreme Court, but the decision has already sparked debate in legal circles.
Republicans have largely backed Trump, saying his right to choose a leader has been violated.
"Democrats are so afraid that President Trump will win on November 5, 2024, that they are illegally trying to remove him from the ballot," Elise Stefanik, a Republican representative from New York, said in a statement.
At the same time, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, another Republican presidential candidate, suggested that the decision was a move by Democrats to antagonize Trump's base and "deliberately" help him win the primaries.
