Trump Urges GOP Holdouts House Plans Vote on Spending Bill!

House Republicans are preparing to vote on their funding bill, referred to as a continuing resolution, on Tuesday. This bill would finance the government at current levels until Sept. 30, 2025. The vote is crucial for Speaker Mike Johnson, as it is uncertain if the Trump-endorsed legislation can pass in the GOP-controlled House without Democratic support.

Johnson must secure near-unanimous GOP backing, as losing more than one Republican vote would defeat the bill if all members are present. Rep. Thomas Massie from Kentucky has stated he will oppose the measure, while Rep. Rich McCormick from Georgia is leaning against it. Several others, including Reps. Tony Gonzales, Andy Ogles, Tim Burchett, Cory Mills, Eli Crane, and Brian Fitzpatrick, are undecided.

Speaker Johnson expressed optimism about the bill’s chances, stating his confidence that it will pass. President Donald Trump has actively advocated for Republican support, even calling lawmakers to shore up votes. Democratic leaders are urging their caucus to reject the bill, emphasizing their unwillingness to support Republican efforts that could harm Americans.

The proposed 99-page bill would reduce overall spending from the previous year but allocate roughly $6 billion more to military expenses. While there is an increase in veterans’ healthcare funding by $6 billion, non-defense spending is approximately $13 billion lower than in fiscal year 2024.

The legislation does not include emergency disaster relief funding but boosts resources for Immigration and Customs Enforcement deportation operations. It also raises funding for the W.I.C. program, providing around $500 million more to offer free groceries to low-income women and children.
