Trump Optimistic About Avoiding Government Shutdown as Vote Looms

President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Sunday that the House of Representatives will pass a temporary funding bill to prevent a government shutdown. While acknowledging that a shutdown “could happen,” Trump remains hopeful that the measure will be approved before funding runs out on March 14.

The bill in question is a continuing resolution (CR) that would maintain current government funding levels until the end of fiscal year 2025. The Republican-controlled House introduced a six-month stopgap spending bill on Saturday, with a vote scheduled for Tuesday.

Trump has voiced his support for the CR and urged fellow Republicans to vote in favor of it. His endorsement has swayed some hardline Republicans who had previously opposed similar funding bills, bolstering the chances of the bill passing in the House, where Speaker Mike Johnson leads a narrow Republican majority.
