The Kremlin announced that U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff traveled to Russia on Friday. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the visit by President Trump’s envoy, but did not specify if he would meet with President Vladimir Putin. Witkoff met with Kirill Dmitriev, the Russian president’s investment envoy, in St. Petersburg, according to Reuters citing the state-run TASS news agency. This marks Witkoff’s third visit to Russia since Mr. Trump’s return to the White House, with previous meetings held with Putin. The trip coincided with the exchange of dual U.S.-Russian national Ksenia Karelina, sentenced to 12 years in a Russian prison, for Arthur Petrov, who was accused of involvement in a global smuggling spy ring. President Trump has been advocating for an end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and has publicly criticized Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine and Putin.
