Border Czar Tom Homan: Trump Administration Will Respect Judge’s Order on Venezuelan Deportations
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – In an interview on ABC News’ “This Week” program, Border Czar Tom Homan stated that the Trump administration will abide by a judge’s ruling that blocked the use of war powers to deport alleged Venezuelan gang members. Homan clarified that the deported Venezuelans had undergone due process in accordance with existing laws, despite critics accusing the administration of disregarding court decisions.
The recent deportation of 137 Venezuelan migrants despite the court order was seen by legal scholars as a new development in President Donald Trump’s ongoing clash with the judiciary. While the administration claims that those deported were members of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, their families and immigration advocates refute this claim.
U.S. District Judge James Boasberg has announced that he will investigate whether the administration violated his temporary order prohibiting the use of the 1798 Alien Enemies Act for deportations, given the failure to comply with the directive to halt the deportations.
Homan emphasized that the administration will not defy Judge Boasberg’s order but asserted that efforts to combat perceived threats to national security and public safety will continue. “We will persist in apprehending individuals considered to be the most dangerous,” he stated.
