An employee has been taken into custody in connection with the homicide of a trucking company CEO, who was discovered with his throat slit in a burning building in the Chicago suburbs last week. Firefighters in Crestwood found Dane Koteski, the CEO and president of ATG Truckload, on the second floor of his business amidst a fire on March 5, as per the Chicago Sun-Times. The 46-year-old trucking executive succumbed to neck injuries caused by a sharp object, as determined by an autopsy. Following the small fire at the business, Koteski’s lifeless body was found. An employee of Koteski, whose identity has not been disclosed yet, was identified as a suspect and subsequently apprehended at a truck stop in Holland, Michigan, approximately 145 miles northeast. The incident was classified as an isolated event directed specifically at Koteski, as reported by WGN9, although the exact motive was not provided. Koteski’s neighbors described him as an active member of a local Serbian church and car club. He is survived by a 13-year-old son, according to an online fundraiser. “It’s incredibly tragic that a neighbor has been lost. This is a truly horrifying situation,” remarked Darlene Adams, a resident living across the street, to the outlet. The fire ignited at Koteski’s establishment ATG Truckload on Wednesday. The suspect is scheduled for extradition to Illinois this week. Adams noted, “He seemed to have a routine of early work hours, followed by caring for his dogs and spending time with his son.” Authorities continue to investigate while awaiting the suspect’s extradition to Illinois.
