Trevor Story had a stellar performance, belting a home run and driving in four runs with four hits. Lucas Giolito shined on the mound, pitching 7 2/3 innings of one-run ball in his first game against his former team, as the Boston Red Sox dominated the Washington Nationals 11-2 on Friday. Jarren Duran also contributed with three RBIs for Boston, which tallied 16 hits and has clinched four wins in their last six games following a recent six-game losing streak. The Nationals were unable to secure their first three-game winning streak since May, falling short against the Red Sox. Giolito, a former Nationals first-round pick and now with the White Sox, showcased his talent by allowing only one run on four hits and three walks while striking out seven. The Red Sox exploded with a seven-run fifth inning, highlighted by Story’s two-run single that forced Washington’s starter out of the game. Boston’s offensive surge continued with Marcelo Mayer driving in a run and Duran adding a two-run double. Story later crushed a two-run homer in the eighth inning. The Red Sox have been dominant on the Fourth of July, winning 10 of their last 11 games on that date. The series will resume on Saturday with Boston’s Walker Buehler facing Washington’s Mitchell Parker on the mound.
