Over 6 million people were under tornado watches on Saturday in eastern Texas, Louisiana, and parts of Mississippi. Additionally, severe storms and tornado warnings have been issued in Texas and Louisiana, with the National Weather Service predicting continued severe weather through Saturday night.
In Arkansas, a severe thunderstorm warning was issued, with forecasters warning of baseball-sized hail. Meanwhile, the coastal Pacific Northwest is bracing for heavy rainfall, raising concerns of flash flooding in northern California and southern Oregon. Much of the country will experience higher temperatures than usual this weekend.
The stormy weather in the South could bring tornadoes, strong wind gusts, and hail. The storm will shift eastward on Sunday, impacting cities like Atlanta, Charlotte, and New York City.
In addition, the Northeast may see freezing rain on Saturday morning, leading to dangerous travel conditions. The East Coast is expected to experience heavy rain and strong winds on Sunday, affecting cities such as Washington D.C., Philadelphia, and New York City.
Another atmospheric river in the Northwest poses a threat of flooding in northern California and southern Oregon. This weekend, severe weather warnings and watches are in effect across various regions of the country.
“Storms are barreling through the Pacific Northwest, as reported by the National Weather Service. Anticipated rainfall totals are between 5 and 7 inches by this upcoming Sunday. Moreover, the Cascade and Rocky mountain ranges are bracing for significant snow accumulation, with projections ranging from 1 to 3 feet by Monday morning.
The weather service issued a cautionary warning, stating, “Heavy snowfall, in conjunction with strong winds, may result in blowing and drifting snow conditions, leading to reduced visibility. Travelers are advised that road conditions could range from very difficult to downright impossible.”
