A 2019 General Motors Cadillac CT5 sedan was presented at an event in New York and is among the models subject to a recall notice. General Motors is recalling over 90,000 vehicles due to an issue with the transmission control valve that could cause tire lock-ups, as reported by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The problem specifically affects cars equipped with 10-speed transmissions, where certain vehicles may experience excessive wear on the transmission control valves over time, leading to a loss of pressure within the valve resulting in rough shifting. According to the safety administration, in rare instances, there could be a momentary wheel lock-up, increasing the potential for a crash. The impacted models include the 2020-21 Cadillac CT4, 2020-21 Cadillac CT5, 2019-20 Cadillac CT6, and 2020-22 Chevrolet Camaro. Of the 90,081 cars that could be affected, an estimated 1% may have the defect, stated the NHTSA. An incident in September involving a 2021 Cadillac CT5 where the front tires locked up prompted further investigation by GM. Despite initially closing the investigation due to the brief nature of the lock-ups and no reported accidents or injuries, the probe was reopened in November after discovering multiple reports of lock-ups, one leading to an accident. Consequently, GM’s Safety Field Action Decision Authority decided to issue a safety recall on February 27. Starting next month, affected owners will receive notifications and can have their vehicles updated with new transmission control software to detect excessive safety valve wear and prevent wheel lock-ups.
