In the early hours of Sunday, a 27-year-old bride was tragically shot and killed as she was leaving her wedding celebrations. Her husband, aged 25, and a 13-year-old child were also wounded in the attack. The authorities have not yet disclosed the woman’s identity. This disturbing incident occurred at 4:30 a.m. local time (10:30 p.m. ET Saturday), as detailed in a statement by local prosecutor Florence Galtier, which was released on Sunday.

The newlywed couple had been married the previous day and were bidding farewell to around 100 guests as they departed Goult in a car. Their path was suddenly obstructed by a vehicle carrying hooded individuals who then proceeded to open fire on the victims with various weapons, according to the prosecutor’s statement. One of the attackers perished during the assault, while the others fled on foot. Additionally, another wedding guest sustained minor injuries.

Prosecutors have announced that autopsies will be conducted early in the week, and an investigation has been launched into charges of murder by an organized criminal group and attempted murder within an organized criminal group.

Local mayor Didier Perello expressed shock over the unprecedented nature of the incident in the typically serene village of Goult. He emphasized the community’s feelings of outrage in the aftermath of the tragedy.

A separate shooting incident in Avignon resulted in another fatality overnight, although it remains unclear if the two events are connected. BFMTV reported this second incident.
