A devastating fire that occurred in the early morning in a Brooklyn apartment has tragically claimed the life of one man and left two other individuals, including a young boy, hospitalized, as reported by the authorities. The incident unfolded when emergency responders received a distressing 911 call reporting a fire outbreak at a four-story brick building situated on 80th Street near Fifth Avenue in the Bay Ridge neighborhood around 3:40 a.m., according to information provided by the New York Police Department.
Upon arrival at the scene, law enforcement officers and firefighters discovered an unconscious 37-year-old man, who was promptly transported by EMS to NYU Langone Hospital – Brooklyn. Despite efforts to save him, the man succumbed to his injuries, the police confirmed. Additionally, a 34-year-old woman and a 2-year-old boy were found injured and were subsequently taken to the same hospital, where they are reported to be in stable condition.
The Fire Department of New York (FDNY) is currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire, while the medical examiner will be responsible for ascertaining the exact cause of death of the deceased man, as per details provided by law enforcement officials. Furthermore, a woman and a young boy were also transported to the hospital following the incident, according to reports by Seth Gottfried.
Authorities have withheld the identity of the deceased victim pending notification of his family. The affected apartment is located above the seafood eatery known as Mussels & More, which occupies the ground floor of the building.
