A man was fatally struck by an SUV and a woman was seriously injured in Arlington early Saturday morning. Arlington Police responded to the scene on N. Watson Rd. near Division St. around 1:00 a.m. after receiving reports of the SUV hitting multiple pedestrians. They found a 31-year-old man named Tyler White and a 42-year-old woman on the ground. White was rushed to the hospital but tragically passed away, while the woman remains in critical condition.
Tyler’s wife, Breya White, expressed shock and devastation over the incident. She recounted how they were at a family gathering when a friend called for help with a car stuck in the mud. Tyler volunteered to assist, and as they were working to tow the vehicle, the SUV crashed into them. Breya described the chaotic moment when the bright light and sound of the impact changed everything. Despite immediate efforts, Tyler did not survive his injuries.
The driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old woman in a BMW X1, had to be freed by first responders and is also hospitalized. Arlington Police are investigating the crash, with potential charges pending, and are considering the involvement of alcohol.
Breya is coping with not only her physical injuries but also the profound emotional loss of her husband. She shared the pain of their children losing a loving father and expressed gratitude for the support received from friends and family during this difficult time.
“He was so selfless. He loved helping people. He was like, ‘Oh, it’s not a big deal. If I could do it, I’m going to do it,” described Breya. “He would always help our neighbors. He’s a car guy, so he would change my neighbor’s oil. Fix the neighbor’s cabinets. He was so selfless. He loved helping people.” “Tyler was amazing. He is amazing. Phenomenal man, a good man. Put his family first, man. Went to work. He loved his job. He loved his friends. He loved his neighbors,” said White. With Christmas less than 12 days away, White said it’s going to be difficult. She’s surrounding herself with family and friends as she navigates the heartbreak. “I just loved him so bad. I loved him so bad, and I just cherish the three years of marriage that we had. I wish it was longer,” said White who wishes they would have picked up their friend and tried to tow the car the next day. “This could have been avoided. My husband could still be alive. I regret that we even went out there that night. Now the family is focusing on funeral arrangements for Tyler.
According to White, Tyler enjoyed fishing and hunting, with plans to take a trip in April for his upcoming birthday. In addition to his outdoor pursuits, Tyler had a passion for aviation and worked as an airplane mechanic. Known for his kind heart, his altruistic nature was evident in both his personal and professional life.
The sentiments shared by Breya and White paint a picture of a man who was always willing to lend a helping hand, no matter the task. Whether it was assisting neighbors with car troubles or fixing cabinets, Tyler’s selflessness and generosity knew no bounds. White fondly remembers her late husband as an exceptional individual who prioritized his family, work, and relationships with unwavering dedication.
As the holiday season approaches, White finds solace in the company of loved ones, leaning on their support to navigate the grief that accompanies her loss. Recounting her deep love for Tyler and the memories they shared in their three years of marriage, White expresses a profound sense of longing for more time together. Reflecting on the events leading to Tyler’s passing, she grapples with feelings of regret, wishing they had made different choices that fateful night.
Now, amidst their sorrow, the family turns its attention to making funeral arrangements for Tyler, a process that serves as a poignant reminder of the void left by his absence. While the pain of their loss weighs heavily on their hearts, the legacy of Tyler’s kindness and compassion continues to resonate, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
