In a message to his 9.5 million followers on Instagram, the famous actor Tom Hanks warned that a dental insurance ad using his image, created with artificial intelligence, was not real.
"Attention! There is a video promoting a dental insurance plan that features an AI version of me. I had nothing to do with it," Hanks wrote, sharing a screenshot of a computer-generated image of himself from the video.
The 67-year-old actor has expressed concerns about the use of AI in film and TV in the past, although he has also allowed digitally created versions of himself to appear in various films.

The computer-animated Christmas movie "The Polar Express" featured a CGI version of the US actor. There were also scenes in the 2022 movie "A Man Called Otto" in which he looked younger through artificial intelligence.
Speaking on a podcast with British comedian Adam Buxton in April, Hanks said of artificial intelligence, "We saw this coming. We saw that a computer would have the ability to take the zeros and ones in it and turn it into a face and a character. We've seen it everywhere since then."
Hanks added to Buxton that AI could also allow a fake version of himself to exist and act forever.
