Glen Powell returns to the big screen in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “The Running Man.” In this new film, Powell portrays the character of Ben Richards who participates in a dangerous televised competition where contestants are hunted by professional assassins. The trailer introduces us to Ben, a man caring for his ill daughter, who is recruited for the show by its producer played by Josh Brolin. Colman Domingo also stars as the show’s charismatic host. Directed by Edgar Wright, known for films like “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz,” the movie showcases his signature fast-paced editing and quick zooms.
The original 1987 movie starred Arnold Schwarzenegger as Ben Richards, with Richard Dawson as the game show host. Powell mentioned in an interview with People magazine that Schwarzenegger supported the new film. Set in a near-future society, “The Running Man” is a deadly competition where runners must survive being hunted by assassins for 30 days, with the entire ordeal broadcast to a bloodthirsty audience. As the story unfolds, Ben becomes an unexpected fan favorite and poses a threat to the system.
Director Wright has emphasized that this adaptation will be more faithful to King’s original novel rather than a remake of the previous movie. The star-studded cast includes Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, William H. Macy, and more. “The Running Man” is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025.
