Christopher Nolan is currently working on his next big film project, an adaptation of Homer’s epic poem “Odyssey.” While the exact approach to adapting this classic piece of literature remains undisclosed, Universal Pictures has described the upcoming movie as a “mythic action epic” that will utilize groundbreaking IMAX film technology to bring Homer’s saga to the big screen for the first time.
Nolan, joined by his longtime collaborator and partner Emma Thomas, is both writing and producing the film. Thomas, who previously won the Best Picture Oscar for “Oppenheimer” alongside Nolan, has been a producer on his projects dating back to “Following.” The couple, married since 1997 and parents to four children, continue their successful partnership in the film industry.
Scheduled for release on July 17, 2026, “The Odyssey” boasts a star-studded cast. Matt Damon has been confirmed to play the lead role of Odysseus, with other actors such as Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron also reportedly joining the ensemble. Filming for “The Odyssey” is taking place in various locations worldwide, including Morocco and the island of Favignana in Italy.
