According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation ABC, the storm was effective in the north of the state of New South Wales (NSW) as well as Queensland, according to a statement from the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM).

In some areas, it caused heavy downpours and hail.

It was reported that more than 57 thousand buildings and thousands of people were left without electricity.

Energex, which provides electricity distribution service in Queensland state, reported that approximately 151 thousand lightning strikes in the south of the state in two hours.

In a press release by Felim Hanniffy, senior meteorologist at BOM, it was stated that "giant hail" exceeding 10 centimeters was seen overnight around the Ipswich region of the state.
