After SEC commissioner Greg Sankey introduced Texas coach Steve Sarkisian, the wrong fight song – belonging to Texas A&M, a rival of the University of Texas – played over the loudspeakers. It was an unexpected entrance for Sarkisian, who quickly realized the mistake when he reached the podium.
This incident brought attention to the historic rivalry between Texas and Texas A&M, which resumed in 2024 after a decade-long hiatus. The annual matchup had ended when Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, only to be revived when Texas entered the conference in 2024. This year, Texas will host the game after the Longhorns won the previous meeting 17-7 before falling to Georgia in the SEC title game.
As SEC media days continue, all eyes will be on Texas A&M coach Mike Elko as he takes the podium. Will the correct fight song be played this time, or will there be another unexpected musical mishap?
