The 12-member jury in the trial held in Riverside County Superior Court in the state of California reported that it was determined that there was no manufacturing defect in the vehicle involved in the accident.

The plaintiffs had claimed that the autopilot system caused the Model 3 to suddenly swerve off the road, hit a tree and burst into flames in the accident in which the owner of the vehicle, Micah Lee, lost his life and they were seriously injured.

Tesla, on the other hand, argued that the accident was "caused by human error". Noting that the driver Lee had been drinking alcohol before getting behind the wheel, Tesla denied responsibility and stated that it was unclear whether the autopilot was activated during the accident.

In the US press, the outcome of the case was described as a "great victory" for Tesla, which faces many similar lawsuits across the country and achieved its first win.
