A 17-year-old boy was shot in the chest inside a Bronx smoke shop on Saturday afternoon by two individuals dressed in all black and wearing masks. The incident occurred at Za Convenience on Lafayette Ave. in Soundview just before 1 p.m. The teen was quickly taken to Jacobi Hospital and is in stable condition. Authorities are currently searching for the suspects who fled the scene on a scooter. The shop had faced legal troubles in the past related to the alleged unlicensed sale of marijuana, but it is unclear if this incident is connected to that. This is not the first shooting to occur at Za Convenience, as a similar incident took place in 2012 involving two masked men. In that previous shooting, a 22-year-old man was wounded in the leg. Police are actively investigating the recent shooting and are reviewing surveillance footage from the area.
