Tech giant reveals potential obstacles from regulatory body

In a recent development, Apple has communicated to the competition regulator in the UK that certain proposed solutions aimed at addressing concerns within the mobile browser market could potentially hinder the company’s drive to innovate. The feedback from both Apple and Google regarding the regulator’s investigation into the distribution of mobile browsers and browser engines, as well as the provision of cloud gaming services via app stores on mobile devices, has been made available on the government’s website.

Regarding the suggested remedy options related to granting access to features, Apple expressed concerns over mandating free access to future WebKit advancements or iOS features utilized by Safari. The company stated that the development of features is a labor-intensive process, making it unsuitable to provide them free of charge. Apple emphasized that recovering the expenses incurred in feature development is crucial to sustaining innovation efforts. Without adequate cost recovery, Apple fears a detrimental impact on its motivation to innovate, potentially resulting in reduced investment and exploitation by third parties.
