Taylor Kitsch Teases ‘Friday Night Lights’ Reboot Involvement!

You’re already familiar with the iconic phrase Tim Riggins would declare: “Let’s make some memories!” With the news of a Friday Night Lights reboot officially in the pipeline from Universal Television, speculation has begun about who might be returning to the small screen. And, surprisingly, Tim Riggins himself isn’t completely ruled out from the equation, despite his high school football days being well in the past.

During a recent appearance on SiriusXM’s The Spotlight with Jessica Shaw, Taylor Kitsch, known for his portrayal of Tim Riggins on the original series, hinted at potential involvement in the reboot. While discussing his new series, American Primeval, with FNL executive producer and director Peter Berg, Kitsch mentioned being aware of the reboot. “I’ve been asked and we’ll leave it at that,” Kitsch cryptically shared.

However, Kitsch didn’t stop there. He clarified that he was not approached to reprise his role as a coach but rather to be part of some form of reboot project. Kitsch expressed his reluctance to take on a leading role in the reboot, stating, “I would come in and do something that maybe for an episode or something.”

When questioned about whether he would return as Riggins or portray a new character, Kitsch remained open to either possibility. While he hinted that fans might still see him as Riggins regardless of the role, he amusingly suggested, “I would go maybe play an opposing team’s coach or something and be on screen for like eight seconds. I would do that.”

Given Kitsch’s acknowledgment of being approached for the reboot, it raises the question of whether other original cast members have also been considered. The reboot is spearheaded by the original series’ executive producers Jason Katims, Brian Grazer, and Peter Berg. The premise of the upcoming series, set to air on Peacock, revolves around a high school football team and their interim coach striving for success in the aftermath of a devastating hurricane, ultimately becoming a symbol of hope for their community.

If Kitsch, akin to Riggins, aims to live without regrets, a return to Texas may be on the horizon. Additionally, actor Zach Gilford expressed his eagerness to collaborate with FNL co-star Jesse Plemons again, hinting at a potential reunion. Fans of the original series are undoubtedly eager to see familiar faces grace their screens once more, with hopes of a reprisal extending to beloved characters such as GRANDMA SARACEN.

The original Friday Night Lights series boasted an exceptional ensemble cast, including the likes of Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Gaius Charles, Scott Porter, Aimee Teegarden, Minka Kelly, Michael B. Jordan, Adrianne Palicki, and many others. The prospect of any original cast member making a comeback is met with enthusiasm from fans, with the inclusion of fan-favorite characters being a top wish.
