The Taliban interim government in Afghanistan detained 200 people who identified themselves as "sorcerers" on the grounds that they were causing social unrest.

Akif Muhajir, spokesperson for the Taliban's Ministry of Invitation to Good and Prevention of Evil, told the press that 200 people, including women, have been detained so far in operations across the country, claiming to be sorcerers.

LEGAL PROCEEDINGS INITIATED

Muhajir said that legal proceedings have been initiated against those involved, noting that such activities are forbidden by religion and lead to corruption and unrest in society. The Taliban had previously imposed restrictions on such activities, which are widespread in the country.
