“Texas Court to Review Husband’s Request to Drop Murder Charge in Suzanne Simpson Case
Next month, a Texas court will review a request from Brad Simpson, the husband at the center of Suzanne Simpson’s disappearance and death, to dismiss his murder charge. Suzanne Simpson, a 51-year-old mother of four, went missing on Oct. 6, 2024, following a reported altercation with her husband of 22 years in front of their Olmos Park home in the San Antonio area. Authorities allege that Brad intentionally caused Suzanne’s death on that Sunday in October.
During a recent court hearing, Steven Gilmore, Brad Simpson’s attorney, indicated that he believes there is sufficient evidence to proceed with the motion to quash the indictment, which includes charges of murder, tampering with evidence, and possession of prohibited weapons. Gilmore requested a hearing on this matter within the next 30 days.
The case has stirred the affluent neighborhood where the couple resided, with ongoing scrutiny of evidence and proceedings. Brad Simpson is scheduled to appear in court on April 22 at 9 a.m., following a rescheduling from February due to the need for additional time to review discovery materials. The legal teams continue to sift through extensive documentation.
On the night of Oct. 6, the Simpsons attended a party at The Argyle club, where witnesses observed a verbal altercation between the couple. Later, at their residence, Suzanne informed a family friend of an alleged assault by Brad. Subsequently, neighbors reported witnessing a physical struggle between Brad and Suzanne outside their home, with screams heard later from a nearby wooded area.
Surveillance footage from the following day shows Brad with suspicious items in his truck, leading to further suspicions. The investigation into Suzanne Simpson’s tragic fate remains ongoing, with the legal proceedings set to determine the next steps in this harrowing case.”
The trash bags were nowhere to be seen in his truck. He was spotted buying two bags of cement, a construction bucket, heavy-duty trash bags, Clorox disinfectant spray, and insect repellent with cash at a nearby Home Depot. Later that day, after picking up his daughter from school, he was seen washing his truck at a Home Depot in Boerne, Texas, on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024. An affidavit stated that Brad Simpson’s truck was seen at the store on Oct. 7, 2024, when he purchased items including Quikrete cement, trash bags, Clorox bleach, and insect repellent around the same time his wife, Suzanne Simpson, went missing under suspicious circumstances.
Suzanne’s friend reported her missing on the evening of Oct. 7, and when the police contacted Brad, he claimed he hadn’t seen her since the previous night. On Oct. 8, Brad exchanged text messages with his friend and business partner, James “Val” Cotter, who was also implicated in the case.
Brad was charged with his wife’s murder, and authorities found incriminating evidence linking him to the crime. Cotter was also charged in connection with the case and posted bond in November 2024.
Brad was arrested on Oct. 9, 2024, and Cotter on Oct. 21, 2024. Investigations led to the discovery of evidence on Simpson’s property and in his truck, including bloodstains that matched Brad’s DNA. In December, it was revealed that Brad had concealed a reciprocating saw after his wife’s disappearance, with her DNA found on the tool.
Brad Simpson remains in custody in Bexar County with multiple bonds totaling $3 million and a federal hold by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives for a weapons charge. His attorney has not provided any comment on the case.
