Supporters gathered to hear Donald Trump speak at a rally in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, on July 31, 2024. Approaching the 100-day mark of his second term, President Trump has successfully united the Republican Party behind not only himself but also his overarching “Make America Great Again” movement, according to recent polling by NBC News.
The March poll revealed that 36% of registered voters identified as MAGA supporters, a notable increase from previous NBC surveys. This surge is largely attributed to the 71% of Republicans who now align themselves with the MAGA movement.
NBC News’ polling demonstrated a noticeable shift within the GOP as the party coalesced around Trump from the early stages of the 2024 presidential primary to the weeks leading up to Election Day. In January 2024, only 20% of registered voters associated themselves with MAGA, whereas that number rose to 29% in the combined October and November 2024 polling.
The rise in GOP support for the MAGA movement has been significant, with a 16-point increase between the polls conducted right before the 2024 election and those in March 2025. Notably, college-educated men also showed a similar trend, with their identification with MAGA increasing from 21% in 2024 to 37% in March.
This shift towards Trump’s camp has resulted in a boost in his approval rating, matching his all-time high of 47% in NBC News’ March poll. However, a majority of registered voters, 51%, still disapprove of his job performance.
Republican pollster Bill McInturff of Public Opinion Strategies, who conducted the survey in collaboration with Democratic pollster Jeff Horwitt of Hart Research Associates, highlighted the dramatic transformation within the GOP. McInturff emphasized the rapid increase in Republicans identifying with the MAGA movement, rising from 40% to 71% within a span of 14 months.
The NBC News poll, conducted from March 7-11 with 1,000 registered voters through a combination of telephone interviews and online surveys via text message, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
