WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Donald Trump revealed on Tuesday that he had recently received a mysterious letter from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy. In the letter, Zelenskiy expressed a surprising openness to engaging in negotiations to address the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.
During his address to the U.S. Congress, Trump shared excerpts from the letter, stating, “Earlier today, I received an important letter from President Zelenskiy of Ukraine. The letter reads, ‘Ukraine is ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible to bring lasting peace closer. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians.'”
The unexpected disclosure sheds light on Ukraine’s eagerness to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict. However, tensions escalated following Zelenskiy’s failed talks with Trump at the White House last Friday, leading to strained relations between the two leaders.
