Surprise MVP Leads Texas to Victory in SEC Tournament

GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) — Star forward Madison Booker scored 19 points to help No. 1 Texas secure a 70-63 win over Mississippi in the Southeastern Conference Tournament quarterfinals. Kyla Oldacre and Shay Holle chipped in with 12 and 11 points, respectively, for the Longhorns, who extended their winning streak to 14 games. Despite facing tough competition, Texas emerged victorious and will face either Florida or No. 9 LSU in the semifinals on Saturday.
The game was intense, with Texas initially leading by 15 points in the third quarter before Ole Miss mounted a comeback. Kirsten Deans’ sharp shooting from beyond the arc helped the Rebels close the gap, but Texas managed to hold on and secure the win with a strong finish.
Deans led Ole Miss with 20 points, supported by Madison Scott’s 14 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists. The Rebels struggled with poor shooting in the third quarter, making only 2 of 15 attempts.
Texas faced challenges of its own, with Booker fouling out in the final minute. However, the Longhorns maintained their composure and sealed the victory with a late surge.
The game featured a high number of fouls, with a total of 53 called throughout. Despite the physical play, Texas emerged triumphant, advancing in the SEC Tournament while Ole Miss awaits its NCAA Tournament fate.
