An initiative by the police aimed at increasing officer visibility in various parts of Plymouth through “proactive engagement” has proven to be highly effective, as confirmed by the police department. Devon and Cornwall Police conducted visits to over 50 locations in the Stonehouse area of the city as part of this initiative. Following these visits and an interactive session, valuable information was obtained, resulting in an arrest on suspicion of possession with intent to supply cannabis and the confiscation of approximately 2kg of the illicit substance. Inspector Greg Bridgett emphasized the importance of demonstrating that officers are “supportive, compassionate, and approachable,” ensuring that this initiative will be ongoing throughout the city for the remainder of the year.
The interactive session presented an opportunity for the public to meet the officers serving in their community. Additionally, officers visited a local school to establish positive relationships with young individuals. Inspector Bridgett highlighted, “We understand the significant impact that the presence of a police officer can have on our communities, enhancing the area’s safety and offering a reassuring presence on our streets. It is crucial that everyone feels comfortable coming forward to report crimes or seek assistance. Through consistent presence on our streets and in our neighborhoods, we aim to achieve this goal.”
