“Daring Escape Unveiled: Recovered Diamond Earrings Valued at over $769,000 After Dramatic Turn of Events”
After a lengthy pursuit, a significant sum of diamond earrings has been retrieved from a man accused of theft in Orlando, Florida. The Violent Crimes Unit of the Orlando Police Department successfully recovered over $769,000 worth of Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings from Jaythan Gilder, a 32-year-old resident of Houston, Texas. Gilder was apprehended on February 26 for allegedly robbing a Tiffany & Co. store in Orlando, during which he was observed swallowing what appeared to be earrings.
Following his arrest, Gilder was taken to a hospital the next day as authorities awaited the earrings to pass through his system. Detective work eventually led to the recovery of three of the four Tiffany & Co. diamond earrings, along with two unidentified diamond earrings on March 10, with the final earring found on March 12. After retrieval and restoration, detectives returned the earrings to the store, where a master jeweler confirmed their authenticity.
Describing the case as a “marathon, not a sprint,” Detective Aaron Goss of the Orlando Police Department Violent Crimes Unit acknowledged the challenging nature of the investigation. Gilder’s alleged robbery involved posing as a representative negotiating a sale for a player from the Orlando Magic basketball team, before absconding with the high-value jewelry. Identified through surveillance footage and subsequent pursuit, Gilder faces charges of robbery with a mask and grand theft in the first degree, in addition to numerous warrants.
