The Pittsburgh Steelers bolstered their offensive line on Tuesday by claiming guard Lecitus Smith off waivers from the New England Patriots. Smith, a 26-year-old lineman, has played in 18 career games with three starts since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2022 draft by Arizona. After his rookie season with the Cardinals, he had stints on the practice squads of both Houston and Philadelphia in 2023 before being claimed by the Patriots from Green Bay’s practice squad last October. In New England, Smith appeared in eight games, starting one. Expected to provide depth on Pittsburgh’s interior line, Smith joins the Steelers during a period of restructuring for the team’s offensive line. This includes moving Broderick Thomas from right tackle to left tackle and Troy Fautanu taking over at right tackle after missing his entire rookie season due to injury last year.
