State Department Urges Staff to Report Anti-Christian Bias Allegations!

WASHINGTON (AP) — The State Department has urged its employees to report instances of suspected anti-Christian bias during the Biden administration, such as actions related to opposition to vaccines or personal pronoun preferences. This call coincides with the observance of Holy Week leading up to Easter Sunday in the Christian world. Amid concerns about potential staff cuts, a State Department update is expected to be presented to the White House soon, which could impact the department’s budget and workforce. While awaiting further details on potential restructuring, the State Department has initiated efforts to address religious bias and discrimination, particularly focusing on anti-Christian activity. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has requested reports of discriminatory actions against Christians or their advocates between January 2021 and January 2025, with investigations into such allegations to be conducted by a task force on anti-Christian bias. The department is seeking information on instances of mistreatment or discrimination based on religious beliefs, including issues related to vaccines, religious holidays, and personal pronouns. Reports can be submitted anonymously for investigation and potential disciplinary actions against offenders.

A recent communication within the State Department has caused concern among employees, particularly regarding issues related to religious beliefs. The cable mentioned instances where employees have been pressured to remove displays of personal religious faith in workspaces, whether on clothing, accessories, or desks. This has led to unease among staff, especially given the timing of the communication following the appointment of Lew Olowski to temporarily oversee the human resources office.

Olowski, who recently assumed the role, made remarks at a gathering welcoming new diplomats, quoting both Biblical verses and religiously themed quotes from President Abraham Lincoln. He emphasized the importance of oaths as covenants that only God and man can make, contrasting them with mere words for talking. He stressed the significance of the Constitution as a guiding commandment for officers, drawing parallels between its authority and that of religious scripture.

Notably, any reports of religious bias within the department are to be directed to Olowski’s wife, Heather, who heads the office of civil rights. This arrangement has raised eyebrows within diplomatic circles, with some expressing reservations about Olowski’s appointment due to his past writings on topics such as immigration and his evident support for former President Trump.

The American Foreign Service Association and the American Academy of Diplomacy have raised concerns about the departure from the tradition of appointing a senior or retired career diplomat to the role now held by Olowski. The situation underscores the delicate balance between personal beliefs and professional responsibilities within the State Department.
