A shocking discovery was made in the tragic murder of a college student, as it was revealed that Long and another employee at a bar were both victims of a violent shooting. Sadly, Long succumbed to her injuries and passed away at South Georgia Medical Center, while her coworker was fortunate to recover. Authorities believe that Clayton and Green were present in the vicinity while searching for an individual connected to an ongoing gang conflict when the fatal shots were fired.
Months later, a reward of $25,000 was offered by authorities for any information leading to the apprehension and conviction of those responsible for the crime. After a thorough investigation lasting over a year, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) along with the Remerton Police Department identified Clayton and Green as suspects in the case. Currently, both individuals are in custody for separate, unrelated offenses in Georgia and Florida.
In a recent announcement, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr disclosed that Clayton and Green, along with five others, have been charged in a 44-count racketeering indictment. This gang, known as 528, has been implicated in various criminal activities including murder, robbery, and assault. District Attorney Bradfield M. Shealy of the Southern Judicial Circuit expressed concern over the rise in gang-related violence in the Valdosta area, highlighting the tragic impact it has had on the community, including the untimely death of Brianna Long.
Remembered as a beacon of positivity and kindness, Long was described in her obituary as a radiant presence in the lives of those who knew her. A former student of Paulding County High School and aspiring dental hygienist at Valdosta State University, Long’s infectious personality and warm connections with her peers left a lasting impression. Her family fondly recalled her as a talented athlete and a source of joy, with her uncle Kevin Long reminiscing about the fun-filled moments shared with Brianna.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched to support Long’s family, raising over $25,000 in contributions. The GBI continues to actively investigate the case and encourages anyone with information regarding the shooting to contact them at 229-225-4090.
