In Baltimore, the New York Mets had to make some roster moves on Tuesday. Starling Marte was placed on the 10-day injured list due to a bruised right knee, while Jesse Winker was activated after being sidelined for two months with an oblique injury. Marte and Winker, who typically play in the outfield, have been serving as the Mets’ designated hitters.
Manager Carlos Mendoza commented on the situation, noting the ups and downs of the roster changes. In addition to these moves, the Mets added right-hander Alex Carrillo to the team from Triple-A Syracuse and designated pitcher Zach Pop for assignment.
Marte had been on a hitting streak in his last three games, but the team is hopeful that he will return after the All-Star break. Winker, who last played in early May, brings his left-handed bat back to the lineup, much to Mendoza’s excitement.
Carrillo, known for his impressive fastball that can reach 100 mph, has an interesting journey to the majors after playing in Independent ball last year. Mendoza expressed his enthusiasm for Carrillo’s potential with the team.
The Mets look forward to seeing how these roster changes will impact the team going forward.
