Star Forward to Undergo Season-Ending Thigh Surgery

In a setback for Roma’s Champions League aspirations, it was revealed on Thursday that Paulo Dybala will have to undergo surgery on his left thigh, ruling the talented Argentine playmaker out for the remainder of the season. Dybala sustained the injury during Roma’s recent 1-0 victory over Cagliari.
According to a statement from the club, Dybala will undergo surgery in the coming days for an injury to his left semitendinosus tendon. Both the player and the club have agreed that this is the best course of action to ensure a full recovery.
Roma, under the guidance of Claudio Ranieri, has enjoyed a resurgence with a 13-match unbeaten streak in Serie A, winning their last six league games. They currently sit in seventh place, four points adrift of fourth-placed Bologna, which secures the final Champions League qualification spot.
The Giallorossi last featured in the Champions League during the 2018-2019 season but were recently knocked out of the Europa League by Athletic Bilbao. Dybala, who has struggled with injuries throughout his career, has scored six goals in 24 appearances this season and has not played 30 Serie A matches in a single season since the 2019-2020 campaign with Juventus.
Due to his injury, Dybala was not included in Argentina’s squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Uruguay and Brazil.
