Brace yourselves as a series of severe weather systems is set to sweep across the country from Wednesday onward, possibly extending through the weekend. Over half of the U.S. population could be affected by damaging winds, tornadoes, and a potential severe weather outbreak expected on Friday and Saturday. The weather drama begins today in California with an atmospheric river event. According to the FOX Forecast Center, the severe weather threat may escalate on Wednesday in the Ark-La-Tex region as a storm system moves eastward from the Southwest into the southern Plains. Forecasters anticipate a more significant severe weather risk looming for Friday and Saturday. NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center warns of severe storms, tornadoes, damaging winds, and hail threats on Friday in the Ark-La-Tex region extending to the middle and lower Mississippi Valley, with the risk shifting eastwards to the Southeast on Saturday. This same weather system is also expected to bring a heightened fire risk and another blizzard in the Plains, leading to potential power outages and blizzard conditions in the region on Friday due to blowing snow. The storm system, originating as an atmospheric river in California, will rapidly intensify, necessitating urgent warnings for residents in the Upper Midwest, High Plains, and Southwest areas. Blizzard conditions are anticipated in the Dakotas, Montana, Wyoming, and parts of Minnesota. Despite the risk, snow totals may be limited due to insufficient cold air. Meanwhile, a fire weather threat looms over parts of New Mexico and Texas starting Tuesday, further exacerbated by storm-induced winds, with the potential threat lasting until Friday. Major cities in the central and eastern U.S. can enjoy one more day of warm temperatures today, with Boston and New York expected to experience their warmest day of the year so far. More than 200 people will experience above-average temperatures before a cold front brings a brief return to winter on Wednesday. In other news, a tornado destroyed two homes north of Orlando on Monday, including the FOX 35 Orlando television station. Despite the damage, no major injuries were reported.
