Southern California Shaken by Earthquake!

On Monday, parts of California were shaken by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake, including areas near Los Angeles and San Diego. The quake’s epicenter was near Julian, about 45 miles northeast of San Diego. Several aftershocks followed, and more were possible, according to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). The earthquake occurred shortly after 10 a.m. local time. While the quake had the potential to cause minor damage near its epicenter, there were no immediate reports of major impacts or injuries. Some items fell from shelves in businesses near Julian, and drivers were cautioned about potential rock hazards on roads.

Residents in Los Angeles and San Diego felt weak to moderate shaking, as indicated by the USGS “felt it” map. The quake was also felt in parts of Mexico and around Yuma, Arizona. The Desert Sun reported that shaking was felt in Palm Springs, describing it as one of the most intense earthquakes in recent memory.

The USGS activated its “Shake Alert” warning system, sending notifications to residents near the epicenter. Seismologist Lucy Jones suggested that the earthquake was likely associated with a branch of the San Andreas Fault system. For more updates and information, visit weather.com.
