Soccer Club Sets Record with Key Acquisition from Rival

FC Cincinnati achieved a historic milestone by securing the services of All-Star Brazilian midfielder, Evander, from the Portland Timbers. The transfer, completed on Monday, saw FC Cincinnati pay a noteworthy sum of $12 million for this talented player. In addition to the transfer fee, the Timbers negotiated to retain a percentage of future sales and trades, with the potential to earn an extra $150,000 based on specific performance criteria.

Evander, aged 26, showcased his exceptional skills by netting 15 goals and providing a league-leading 19 assists in 28 MLS matches, including 27 starts, in the previous season. His remarkable performance earned him the prestigious titles of MLS All-Star, MVP finalist, and a spot in the MLS Best XI. During his debut season with Portland in 2023, Evander notched nine goals and five assists in 27 matches, with 25 starts.

Ned Grabavoy, the General Manager of the Timbers, expressed gratitude for Evander’s contributions and conveyed best wishes for his future endeavors. FC Cincinnati’s General Manager, Chris Albright, welcomed Evander and his family to the team, highlighting the player’s exceptional qualities and the positive impact he is expected to have on the team’s attacking play.

Evander’s impressive tally of 34 goal contributions in the previous season ranked second only to Lionel Messi of Inter Miami, who recorded 36. Excited about the new chapter in his career, Evander expressed his happiness and anticipation for the upcoming season while emphasizing his commitment to giving his best for the club and aiming for success on the field.

Following Evander’s departure, the Timbers swiftly filled the gap by acquiring Portuguese midfielder, David Da Costa, from French club RC Lens for a reported fee of $6 million. Da Costa, aged 24, signed as a designated player through 2028, with a club option for 2029. His experience in the top-flight French league, where he amassed 11 goals and 17 assists in 123 appearances over the past four seasons, positions him as a promising addition to the Timbers’ squad.

Ned Grabavoy praised Da Costa’s abilities, noting his intelligence on the field and his potential for further growth as a player. The acquisition of Evander by FC Cincinnati and the subsequent signing of Da Costa by the Timbers underscore the ambitious nature of both clubs and the commitment of their respective ownerships to building competitive rosters for the future.
