Soap Opera Drama: Replacement Shakes Things Up

Jonathan Jackson, known for his role as Lucky Spencer in General Hospital, is temporarily stepping away from the show. This news was confirmed by PEOPLE on February 17, stating that the actor will be absent from several episodes starting from February 18. While the exact reason for his break remains undisclosed, Jackson has already returned to the Port Charles set to film new episodes, with fans anticipating his comeback as Lucky later this month.

In the meantime, Guy Wilson, famous for his portrayal of Will Horton in Days of Our Lives from 2014 to 2015, will be filling in for Jackson’s character. Wilson previously appeared on General Hospital as a young version of Lucky’s late father, Luke, in a fantasy sequence back in 2006.

Jackson’s temporary departure follows his announcement of returning to the soap opera in June 2024, after a hiatus to explore new opportunities. Having portrayed Lucky for 18 years from 1993 to 2011, Jackson expressed his excitement about rejoining the cast in a video shared on Instagram. He extended his gratitude to the loyal fans and the ABC network for welcoming him back.

Throughout his tenure on the show, Jackson’s exceptional performance earned him five Daytime Emmy Awards. During his absence, actors Jacob Young and Greg Vaughan temporarily took on the role of Lucky. Apart from General Hospital, Jackson also portrayed Avery Barkley on Nashville during its six-year run from 2012 to 2018. Furthermore, he appeared in the 2024 film Unsung Hero before deciding to make a comeback to GH.
