SNL Writer’s Playful Response to Morgan Wallen

Morgan Wallen’s unexpected departure from Saturday Night Live sparked humor from one of the show’s writers. Following the March 29 episode where Wallen left before others, the country singer posted a photo of a private jet with the caption “Get me to God’s country” on Instagram Stories. In a witty response on March 30, SNL writer Josh Patten shared a picture of a Krispy Kreme truck in NYC, with the same caption below, playfully referencing Wallen’s post. Patten also teased himself by revealing that five of Wallen’s songs were among his top-listened tracks in 2023.

During the same episode, newcomer Mikey Madison showcased her comedic skills, while the show’s cold open targeted a group chat involving the Trump administration. Wallen performed songs from his upcoming album amidst the night’s events. After Madison’s appreciation speech, Wallen whispered to her before leaving abruptly, causing a stir.

Wallen, who had rehearsed his exit all week, later clarified that his actions were not meant to offend and were spontaneous. Sources close to him emphasized that there was no ill intent and no drama between him and the show. Wallen had previously faced a setback in 2020 when he breached COVID-19 protocols, leading to his removal from SNL that year.
