On April 9, Donald Trump was in the Oval Office of the White House when a group of five small businesses filed a lawsuit against him. They are seeking to stop the new tariffs that President Trump has implemented on foreign imports in recent weeks. The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. Court of International Trade, claims that Trump has overstepped his authority by imposing tariffs under the guise of a trade deficit emergency, a power not granted to him by Congress. The Liberty Justice Center, representing the businesses, argues that trade deficits do not constitute an emergency and that Trump’s actions are harming small businesses across the country. The plaintiffs include companies such as VOS Selections, FishUSA, Genova Pipe, MicroKits LLC, and Terry Precision Cycling, all of which are facing significant financial burdens due to the tariffs. The lawsuit calls for the court to declare Trump’s actions illegal and to halt the imposition of these tariffs. CNBC has reached out to the White House for comment on the matter.
