Sia and Dan Bernad Divorce After Two Years of Marriage
Sia is officially filing for divorce from her husband, Daniel Bernad, following two years of marriage. Court documents, filed on Wednesday, March 19 and obtained by PEOPLE, reveal that the Australian singer/songwriter separated from her husband on Tuesday, March 18, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for the split. Additionally, the documents disclosed that Sia, 49, welcomed her third child, named Somersault Wonder Bernad, 11 months ago, her first child with Bernad, born on March 27, 2024.
The Grammy-nominated artist is seeking legal and physical custody of their 11-month-old child but is willing to allow visitation rights to Bernad. However, she is requesting that the court not grant her ex spousal support. Representatives for Sia have not yet responded to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
In May 2023, Sia and Bernad tied the knot in a private ceremony at Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana’s Villa Olivetta in Portofino, Italy, with only six guests in attendance. Prior to Bernad, Sia was previously married to Erik Anders Lang, and before that, she became a mother to two teenage boys in 2019.
In a 2020 interview with InStyle, Sia shared her journey to motherhood, expressing her lifelong desire to become a mom. She discussed her struggles with infertility, including undergoing in-vitro fertilization treatments with Lang.
Inspired by the 2016 HBO documentary Foster, Sia decided to become a parent and later adopted a boy she had seen in the film. Initially planning to adopt only him, she ended up welcoming his “cousin Che” from the group home as well, as she had spare bedrooms available.
